Markets in Kachin, Burma.

British colonial rule introduced Western elements of culture to Myanmar. Many ethnic minorities, particularly the Karen in the southeast, and the Kachin and Chin who populate the north and northwest, practice Christianity.

The Kachin community is largely Catholic and Baptists unlike the mostly Buddhist Shan State.

Photographs taken in Banda Aceh, mid-December 2006, 2 years after the Tsunami of December 26th 2004 devastated much of the coastal region, leaving over 180,000 dead and 42,000 missing.
